More than 300 practitioners of Taoist Tai Chi® arts gathered on Vancouver's busy waterfront on Saturday to show hundreds of residents and tourists how they stay healthy and flexible.
On a gorgeous sunny day, participants demonstrated 108-move Taoist Tai Chi® sets and Tai Chi sabre sets, and provided free Tai Chi lessons to dozens of passersby.
The occasion was the annual International Awareness Day celebration of the Pacific Region of Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi®.
“Tai Chi is a way of getting all the parts working together so that we can achieve new levels of health and happiness, balance and calm,” said Jim Nicholson, an instructor with the non-profit, charitable organization's Vancouver branch.
“The more we learn how to move in a balanced way, the more confident we can be in our own bodies and what they are able to do.”
A few participants came from outside British Columbia, but most came from the Pacific Region's eight branches: Vancouver and area; Surrey, Langley and White Rock; Chilliwack and Abbotsford; Victoria and area; Nanaimo-Chemainus-Duncan; Parksville and mid-Island; Southern Interior including Vernon, Kelowna and Nelson; and Kamloops, including 100 Mile House and Ashcroft.
